The Sustainable Energy Association (SEA) would like to congratulate Andrew George MP for signing the House of Commons Early Day Motion no. 509, calling for the current zero rate of VAT on energy saving materials to be extended beyond March 2027.

This zero rate was introduced by the previous Conservative Government in 2022, but it is due to end in March next year.

The current VAT exemption remains instrumental for driving growth in the energy sector, reducing costs for consumers, driving down demand, and increasing energy security. Andrew George’s participation in the campaign reaffirms his commitment to making energy saving materials more affordable for homeowners and landlords across the country.

As Dave Sowden, the Chief Executive of the SEA said, ‘This simple policy will enable people to cut fuel bills, help with the cost-of-living crisis and also reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. The continuation of this policy is a no brainer.’

Andrew George MP said, ‘If we’re to promote essential energy conservation, we should keep costs down. That’s why I backed this important parliamentary motion to zero-rate energy saving materials and measures. I hope Ministers take note. We must do all we can to cut energy bills and protect the planet.’
