Our thoughts are with the Israeli people on the anniversary of the terrible atrocity in the south of the country.

However, I was very disappointed with the Prime Minister’s response to my question today.

He says “I stand with Israel”.

I told him “I stand with Peace”.

Of course, I stand with the Israeli people, especially on a day like today but I equally stand with the Palestinians, the Lebanese and others.

However, this isn’t just about semantics…

I applaud the use of the British military to protect Israeli lives at the weekend however, I ask the Prime Minister, where is the equivalence for the people of Gaza, Beirut and other communities being bombed by the Israeli government?

They stand with Israel

I stand with peace

Israelis, Palestinians, Lebanese all deserve protection.

Pleased UK can contribute to protecting Israel from attack. Should be prepared to do the same to protect innocent people being killed by Israel’s military action in Gaza and Lebanon.

It’s gone too far, for two long.

My thoughts have been with the families, friends and colleagues of those caught up in the atrocities in Gaza. That one of our own local men has so very tragically lost his life simply because he wanted to help others who desperately need the humanitarian aid he was bravely helping to provide, reinforces just how misguided the revenge-driven bloodlust of Israel’s far-right government is.

If this is how clearly marked humanitarian aid workers are murdered by this regime, we know how the 34,000+ Palestinians – mostly women and children – have lost their lives. Israel government propagandists are granted excessive media time to dishonestly pretend to the world their actions are “proportionate” and “measured“, and that innocent people will be helped to stay “out of harms’ way”.

Our PM gleefully shook hands with Netanyahu and said he wanted him “to win“, as if it were a game of sport. He has firmly resisted calls for a permanent ceasefire and refuses to end arms supplies to Israel. He shames the UK, …and has blood on his hands.

I see James Henderson’s family has commented:

“On behalf of the Henderson family, James’s brother, who declined to be named, told The Times: “Accountability is the only hope of justice I have … I don’t believe our government will hold the correct people to account, but I guarantee that our government will sell weapons to Israel, which may in turn be used to kill our fellow citizens. It’s hard to comprehend that.”

He added: “I feel this is inexcusable behaviour, to kill my brother and his colleagues on a humanitarian mission. Our thoughts are with the suffering people who have been deprived of basic humanitarian needs. It’s unacceptable for our world leaders to ignore this gross miscarriage of justice.”

“We need an immediate ceasefire (and in the West Bank too)

There is no military solution. You cannot defeat Hamas by bombing and shooting (after all Hamas’ high command doesn’t live in Gaza).

“Hamas is an idea. The best way to defeat a bad idea is with a better idea. To give people hope.”
