Stop Lloyds Bank Closure
Andrew George MP has called a Public Meeting to oppose Lloyds Bank’s plan to close its Penzance branch. The meeting will take place on Monday 10th November at 6.15 pm, at St John’s Hall, Penzance.
With the support of local businesses, Andrew has arranged the meeting to gauge public opinion regarding Lloyds Bank’s decision to close its long-standing Penzance branch in January 2026.
Earlier in the evening, Mr George will meet with senior Lloyds Bank managers at the Branch to challenge their plans. Despite being invited, the bank has declined to attend the public meeting.
Andrew said, “The Bank was happy enough to be bailed out with £37 billion of public funds 17 years ago. But they turn their back on us when it doesn’t suit them.
“If we are to give ourselves a chance of persuading them to change course, there needs to be a strong public response to this,” Mr George said. “I urge Lloyds customers and those concerned about the vitality of the centre of town to get behind this campaign and to support our petition. The closure suits remote managers but will be to the detriment of many older people, many local businesses, the vulnerable, and the digitally excluded.”
