‘Sell-out’ for MP’s Public Meeting – next event planned for July

Posted on: 5th June 2025

There was a ‘sell-out’ of free tickets for the latest in Andrew George MP’s public meetings at the Union Hotel in Penzance at the weekend.

Andrew has held public – “Parliament for the People”  meetings across the constituency (in Helston, St Ives and Penzance) since he was elected last July because he says he wants to report back to constituents and make himself available to answer questions about what he’s doing on behalf of local people in Parliament.

He had promised to cover and covered three key areas in his opening:

  • The Government’s Planning and Infrastructure Bill – particularly in respect of meeting housing need and supporting nature recovery.
  • The Government’s NHS 10-Year Plan – due to be published this summer, and what Andrew’s investigations as a member of the Health Select Committee have revealed so far.
  • Andrew’s recent visit to Israel and the West Bank – the lessons learned and what has happened in parliament, what more our government can do to promote peace and to stop the killing and discrimination.

Andrew said, “Many thanks to all who attended. We had a full lively, thoughtful and at times challenging exchange of views – precisely what democracy needs. The feedback was much appreciated.

“Of course, as always, the discussion ranged far wider than the subjects I introduced the evening with. Touching on subjects from the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, to climate change issues, Carers’ Allowance, the status and pay of Care Workers, the outcome of the Council elections, local planning and more.

“I’ll continue to hold regular public meetings, to ensure local people have a full opportunity to hear what I’m doing on your behalf and to answer questions. I believe this is important in a functioning democracy.”

Details for the next meeting in July will be announced shortly.
