The whole of the South West Water Board should go – George
An MP who called for the resignation of the Chief Executive of South West Water (SWW) and its Board the day before the Chief Executive then announced her ‘retirement’ is pressing on with his demand that the whole Board must go.
West Cornwall and Isles of Scilly (St Ives constituency) MP Andrew George highlighted OFWAT’s report findings, which emphasise that the leadership of SWW failed to meet its legal obligations in respect of the discharge of wastewater from their systems. The public have been dismayed at the extent of sewage spills into coastal waters and rivers in recent years. The company has perpetually put profit and exec bonuses above the responsibility to provide a public service.
“Welcome as it is to be told of the imminent retirement of the CEO, the public cannot have confidence in SWW until the whole of the Pennon Board has stood down. It must recruit new board members who are resolved to respect the importance of SWW to meet it’s public service obligations, not just the advantages to itself of securing substantial gain from the relatively risk-free monopoly company status that they enjoy.”
Andrew George has written to his fellow MPs across the region to seek their support to press on to see the back of the Board.
