George to meet South West Water CEO in campaign to ‘stop the s**tshow’!

Andrew George, Liberal Democrat MP for West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, will meet Susan Davy, ‘retiring’ CEO of South West Water at the St Erth Sewage Works this week, as he continues his campaign to clean-up our coast and rivers. He is also demanding answers following another shocking catalogue of sewage pollution around west Cornwall again this week.

Mr George had led local MPs in a call on Ms Davy to resign last month. She announced her intention to ‘retire’ the following day.

Mr George said: “I’m grateful Susan Davy has agreed to meet me at St Erth. Hundreds of constituents from the Lizard to the Isles of Scilly have contacted me to complain about worsening sewage spills in recent years. Others shocked that top executives and shareholders have continued to award themselves while pollution levels worsen. We pay the highest bills in the country, but don’t see services improve. Then many householders with cesspits have been turned away when needing to empty. It’s just not good enough. Frankly it’s a s**tshow.”

Following yesterday’s heavy rainfall, South West Water’s own monitoring system, shows that storm overflows have been active in the last 24 hours in:

  • Mousehole
  • St Buryan
  • Porthcurno
  • St Just
  • Lower Boscaswell
  • St Ives
  • Carbis Bay
  • St Erth
  • Penzance
  • Gulval
  • Chyandour
  • Long Rock
  • Perranuthnoe
  • Helston

At the time of writing, the storm overflow in Heamoor is currently active.
