Welcome for Helston Banking Hub
West Cornwall Liberal Democrat MP, Andrew George welcomed the formal opening of the new Helston Banking Hub when he was asked to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony last weekend.
He reflected on the first meeting with his Bank Manager – Mr Cheeseman – in the Helston branch of Lloyds Bank almost half a century before, and how banking had changed since then.
“Not all of it is progress”, said Andrew in his welcoming remarks. “If a remote computer says “no”, you want to talk to a human being, not a chatbot or be diverted to an irrelevant FAQ.
“After all the high street branches went, this provides a semblance of service for those who like to talk to someone face to face rather than a computer screen. So, well done to everyone who has done so much to make this happen. All I’ve done is turn up to cut the ribbon and have my photograph taken! I’m not going to be one of those MPs who claims credit when they’ve done nothing. So, well done. This is a good project, well located and with lovely people eager to provide a great service.”
