Shocking that so many misled by Housing insulation cowboys
Local MP, Andrew George, has sought the support of Government Ministers to stamp out a scam by “unscrupulous cowboys who masquerade as Government home insulation contractors”, who take advantage of often elderly people. Scores of local households have been mis-sold poor and defective quality home insulation services.
Mr George said, “Some of the poor workmanship was under various government home energy schemes. But the majority seem to have been unscrupulous cowboy contractors falsely masquerading as government supported contractors. Many have had to pay out £10,000 or more having spray foam installed and then having to pay through the nose to have it removed when it was shown to be inappropriate, defective or a cause of damp and mould.
“I’m grateful to local Councillor Mike Thomas for highlighting this scam and bringing it to me. I was pleased the government minister, Miatta Fahnbulleh MP, demonstrated a sincere concern about this problem. As she pointed out, any work undertaken under the Government Trustmark scheme would be entitled to free redress. Householders deserve assurance that, if the service is defective, there will be full redress.
“I’ll be following this up with further meetings with government ministers. Though I doubt we can put right the mess left by the last government, we can make sure lessons are learned. Then we must publicise widely that any future government scheme has robust checks and assurances which protect the public from these cowboy operators”.
