Andrew George statement on Timms Review into PIP 

Andrew George, Liberal Democrat MP for West Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly spoke in a Commons debate on the Timms Review into Personal Independence Payments (PIP) on Thursday 9th July. A record of his exchange with Sir Stephen Timms, Minister of State for Social Security and Disability can be found in Hansard, here. 

In a statement on his social media accounts, Andrew said: 

“Public funds used to invest in and improve the lives of disabled people is just common sense and good business. Those politicians who accuse others of scrounging or that we’re creating a benefit dependency culture are out of touch. 

“I welcome the government’s change of heart. Personal Independence Payments are more often used to support people in work. And the unnecessary and avoidable trauma of having to perpetually reapply for this help just adds to the problems. 

“We can better manage and bring down the cost of this policy if we see this as an investment and reject those who seek to set people against each other in another “hostile environment”.”
