George demands action from South West Water as water continues to be cut off from villages during a heat wave

West Cornwall, Andrew George is stepping up pressure on South West Water as homes and businesses continue to experience regular water supply failure. This is affecting Nancledra, Carbis Bay, Halsetown, Cripplesease, Towednack, and surrounding areas.

Andrew has demanded action from SWW since the failures began early in 2026. Residents and businesses have reported over 30 incidents since January.

South West Water attribute the problem to a local pumping-station fault combined with strain on its network. Previous communications and a meeting with the MP have not yet resulted in improvements, and SWW has explained that the problem is more complex than first thought. Matters have come to a head during the current heatwave. Some constituents have accused South West Water of ‘refusing’ to supply bottled water, while others have hired portaloos at their own expense.

Andrew said: “South West Water seems unconcerned that this is yet another feather in their cap of shame. This isn’t the first time residents and businesses in this area have been hit by water cutoffs and low pressure: South West Water knew there was a weakness in the system and failed to act. I’ve asked them to meet me with local customers on site. Now, they’re promising to correct the problem, but why has it taken them so long?”

South West Water managers have agreed to attend a public meeting being organised by Andrew in the affected area in the coming weeks.
