  • I’ve come out in the MP’s ballot. I have a chance to propose new legislation; a Private Members’ Bill (PMB). I have another week to consult and consider. I’ll focus on this at my next public meeting, tomorrow, 7pm. Friday 29th May, at the Queens Hotel, Penzance.

I was fortunate (again). My name came out early (4th); to introduce my PMB this autumn. So, I’ve been inundated by every lobby group under the sun to take on their draft Bill. Including campaigns of my own on housing, health, combatting violence against women, combatting growing inequality, etc, there are now scores of others.

I’m narrowing it down. As well as the above, the list includes:

  • Affordable Homes – a Bill to enable more affordable housing; to introduce planning controls on non-permanent residential use (second and holiday homes); to end the ‘Bedroom Tax’;
  • Nature & National Security – a Bill to recognise nature as critical national infrastructure;
  • Safe staffing in the NHS – A Bill to establish mandatory registered nurse to patient ratios in all NHS settings;
  • Ban trophy hunting imports – a Bill to do just that;
  • Marine Mammals protection – a Bill to protect seals and dolphins from human risk and disturbance;
  • Palliative Care Standards – a Bill establish clinically sound standards and universal access to palliative care;
  • Terminally Ill (adults) dying – to show the House of Lords they that the House of Commons is the primary democratically elected chamber and that they are there to offer reasonable revision, not to abuse their powers to block and frustrate the democratically elected chamber;
  • Enhanced Devolution – a Bill to enable devolution of powers to places like Cornwall;
  • Protection and Restoration of Ancient Woodland – a Bill to support the restoration of ancient woodland sites within the public forest estate;
  • Parthenon Sculptures Reunification – a Bill to return the Parthenon Sculptures which were improperly removed by Lord Elgin over 200 years ago.

Narrowing down to just one will be very difficult. I have till 8th June. So, let me know what you think. And come to the Public Meeting tomorrow. Venue capacity is limited. That’s not to say you can’t just turn up. But, we’ll need to honour the places of those who book a (free) place in advance.
