Andrew George MP hits the jackpot, again! Success in Private Members’ Bill Ballot
West Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Liberal Democrat MP, Andrew George has today succeeded in the ballot to become one of the top MPs to put forward their own legislation this year. This is the second time Andrew has “hit the jackpot”, as he was top of the ballot with a Private Members’ Bill (PMB) when he was last in Parliament in 2014.
Andrew was fourth in the ballot this time, meaning his bill stands a very good chance of becoming law.
He is already being heavily lobbied by a large number of campaign organisations and interest groups who want him to take up their respective cause.
However, Andrew has pledged to consult his constituents in the next fortnight before making his decision. He has already outlined an indicative list of possible bills (attached) to take forward, but he is open to further suggestions. He will also be holding a public meeting in Penzance next Friday (29th May) evening when he wants to hear from constituents and to discuss the merits of the various options available to him.
Andrew said:
“This is a great opportunity for West Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly. That’s why I want to take a little time to listen to what constituents say before finally making my decision about which option would be best.”
His ‘People’s Parliament’ public meeting, will take place at the Queens Hotel, Penzance at 7pm on Friday 29th May.
Constituents are encouraged to book a free ticket to avoid disappointment as the venue has a capacity limit.
