‘It’s Time To Do The Right Thing’ for WASPI Women – George
Andrew George, Liberal Democrat MP for West Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly, is calling again for the Government to give justice to WASPI women.
Today (28th April), he met online with leaders from WASPI campaign groups to discuss the ongoing campaign. Following the meeting, he has again joined a group of cross‑party MPs in writing to ministers, urging them to use the forthcoming King’s Speech to bring forward a motion to address a long‑standing injustice. Andrew said:
“WASPI women deserve justice. The Parliamentary Ombudsman ruled two years ago that WASPI women “suffered injustice”.
“This morning, I met with WASPI Chair, Angela Madden, and Co-leader, Debbie de Spon, for a campaign update.
“With a cross-party group of MPs, I’ve written again today to ministers urging them to use the forthcoming King’s Speech to bring forward a motion to put right this wrong.
“Many criticise political leaders who make U-turns. But, I believe they should be praised. For acknowledging that when the facts change, they can and should change their mind; or that they have shown they’ve listened and reviewed the wisdom of a previous decision. This government has, to its credit, made many U-turns; on winter fuel, mandatory digital ID, the two-child benefit cap, release of the Mandelson files, etc. Though I wasn’t impressed by their previous WASPI U-turn – supporting the WASPI claim in opposition and then rejecting it when in government!
“It’s time to do the right thing. They should U-turn to give WASPI women justice.”
