Isles of Scilly Transport Adjournment Debate

Posted on: 20th March 2026

Following a Commons adjournment debate on Transport for the Isles of Scilly, which he secured earlier this week, local MP, Andrew George, said: “It’s a shocking injustice. Isles of Scilly residents are treated like second-class citizens when it comes to affordable transport. Especially when compared with everywhere else in the UK.

“I’m grateful to the Minister for responding positively in this week’s debate. I followed this with a meeting with Ministers and Council representatives. There is, of course, much to do.

“It’s not just ferry and air prices, but freight costs that are crippling efforts to address the desperate need for affordable homes and other essential services. Winter travel between the off-islands and St Mary’s now costs £160 return. Far from the £3 bus fare on the mainland and the free older person’s bus pass!

I’ll report back on progress…”
