Schools White paper – “Encouraging, but must do better”, George
Liberal Democrat MP for West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Andrew George welcomed today’s Schools White Paper and has called an urgent “SEND Summit” for parents, teachers, specialists, carers, and students (details below and attached).
Andrew said: “There’s much to welcome in today’s White Paper. The whole sector and SEND services in particular need a radical re-think. But, as ever there’s much need for detailed scrutiny. I fear the blizzard of spending commitments includes re-announcements of money already committed and sums for multi-year funding which is made to sound like annal funding commitments.
“That’s why I’ve immediately called a SEND Summit in west Cornwall to seek the views of parents, teachers, carers, students and local authority specialists.”
SEND Summit
Bringing together families, professionals, and senior leaders from Cornwall Council’s SEND service. This summit aims to ensure that voices from Cornwall are heard — openly, honestly, and constructively — and that lived experience informs both local practice and national policy.
Friday 13th March,
9:30am – 12:30pm,
The Old Cattle Market, Helston.
An agenda will be shared in advance.
