Marie Curie Campaign
My Liberal Democrat parliamentary colleagues and I are fully committed to upholding the freedom, dignity, and well-being of all people at all stages, including end of life. We respect everyone’s right to make choices about how they wish to spend their final days, including access to free end-of-life social care. It is also essential that high-quality palliative care is available to all those who need it. This is a subject the Health Select Committee (on which I serve) is undertaking an inquiry into.
Fair and sustainable funding for hospices, including children’s hospices, is essential. We are also pushing for paid carers leave, an expansion of Carer’s Allowance, and guaranteed respite care for family carers. This will provide critical support for those who care for their loved ones, even before they are eligible for end-of-life care.
We are further committed to improving the overall quality of social care. This includes introducing free personal care, implementing a new workforce plan for care workers, ensuring they are paid a higher minimum wage, and establishing a national care agency to set and ensure national care standards.
I continue to support the exceptional work of Marie Curie.
