Trump’s Gaza Proposals

The idea of forcibly displacing over two million Palestinians from their homes and corralling them into a so-called “humanitarian city”, or worse, encouraging their emigration to third countries, is not a humanitarian gesture. It is a grotesque abuse of power and a violation of international law.

Netanyahu’s government has shown a chilling disregard for Palestinian lives. The deliberate destruction of civilian infrastructure, the weaponisation of humanitarian aid, and the systematic starvation of Gaza’s population are not acts of self-defence — they are acts of cruelty. His regime has bombed hospitals, targeted aid distribution points, murdered health and aid workers and journalists, and now seeks to engineer a future where Palestinians are either confined, surveilled, or erased entirely.

This is not just a failure of leadership; it is a moral collapse, made worse by the complicity of powerful allies who should know better. Trump’s fantasy of turning Gaza into a Middle Eastern “Riviera”, populated not by its native people but by “international investors”, is a neocolonial fever dream which dovetails disturbingly with the Israeli far-right’s annexationist ambitions.

In case you are not already aware, I have and will continue to raise this issue in Parliament and work with colleagues across parties to ensure the UK is a voice for peace, not a bystander to atrocity. My comments and actions on this issue can be found here.
