Clean Water Worldwide

Access to clean water is a basic human right. it is unacceptable that so many people are still denied this most fundamental necessity.

My Liberal Democrat Parliamentary colleagues and I are firmly committed to restoring the UK’s leadership role in international development, including reversing the damaging cuts to water and sanitation programmes and protecting future generations’ rights to clean water. We opposed both the Conservative’s and Labour’s cuts in international aid, and would restore the UK’s legal commitment to spend 0.7% of Gross National Income on aid, not the reduced 0.5% figure the previous Conservative Government imposed, and which Labour regrettably will reduce to 0.3% by 2027. That lost investment represents billions of pounds and, more importantly, countless lives affected.

I will continue to speak up in Parliament for restoring our country’s commitment to clean water, health, and sanitation worldwide, and to press the government to step up its action. The UK should be leading by example in helping build a safer, fairer, and more sustainable world.
