Dog Ear Cropping

The barbaric practice of cropping dog ears is rightly illegal in the UK. The Animal Welfare (Import of Dogs, Cats and Ferrets) Bill, introduced by my Liberal Democrat colleague Dr Danny Chambers MP, seeks to close the loophole that allows for the importation of dogs and other species that have suffered mutilations such as ear cropping.

This Bill is currently being examined in the Committee stage in Parliament. I will support this Bill if it reaches the Third Reading in Parliament. I am also pleased that the Government has signalled its intent to support this Bill and end the import of mutilated pets.

I will continue to support actions which protect our animals.
