Welcome for sandbags ‘U’ turn

Posted on: 17th February 2014

West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, has welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister’s commitment to underwrite the cost of the supply of sandbags across Cornwall in view of the experience of recent flooding and the storms.

Mr George had criticised the previous Cornwall Council administration in 2012 for not ensuring that sandbags were available – especially for vulnerable households in flood risk areas.

Following the floods in the Helston area in November 2012 Mr George urged the Council to change its policy on the supply of sandbags.

Mr George said:  “I hope that the new administration at Cornwall Council will now establish this latest announcement on the supply of sandbags as a permanent policy.”
