Value local enterprise – MP urges

Posted on: 2nd December 2013

West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, is urging local people to support local businesses and enterprises in the preparation for “Small Business Saturday” this Saturday, 7th December 2013.

Mr George will be consulting hundreds of local businesses throughout his St Ives constituency later this month before he meets with Business Secretary, Rt. Hon Dr Vince Cable MP, in the New Year.

He is seeking views on Government regulation, banking and banking reform, staff recruitment, apprenticeships, Government business initiatives (such as Business Improvement Districts) and what else the Government can do to get behind small businesses in particular.

Mr George said: “I am keen to ensure that businesses across West Cornwall and the Scillies share in the economic growth and maximise the opportunities of Government support and deregulation.

“Since the creation of the Coalition Government, 1.5 million more jobs have been created by businesses across the UK, unemployment is down and there are strong signs of economic recovery.

“It is vitally important that businesses in West Cornwall capitalise on the opportunity of economic recovery. That is why I am consulting with local businesses to build upon an agenda to ensure that the Government understands what businesses in this part of the world need in order to both contribute to that recovery and enjoy the benefits of it.”

Mr George, who is also supporting the Cornwall Apprenticeships campaign, will promote the importance of opportunities for businesses to take on apprenticeships.
