Andrew George MP: Trinity House Throw Light on their Activities

Posted on: 9th August 2011

The MP for the West Cornwall and Isles of Scilly constituency of St Ives, Andrew George, spent this morning, 9th August 2011, with senior executives of Trinity House – which is responsible for marking safe passage for seafarers around the coast of the United Kingdom.

Mr George met not only Malcolm Johns, the Manager of the St Just depot which is based at Lands End Airport, Kelynack, St Just, but also Trinity House’s Engineering and Operations Manager, Simon Millyard, from their base in Harwich and Jon Price the Legal and Risk Manager from Tower Hill, London.

Amongst issues which they discussed, were the arrangements necessary for the effective upkeep of the many lighthouses and day marks which Trinity House are responsible for around West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly; the advice given by Trinity House as offshore renewable energy takes off; and some of the recent incidents around the coast where safeguarding arrangements have failed – for instance, the cargo vessel, Karin Schepers.
