Success for Leisure Centre campaigners

 

8 local Leisure Centres and swimming pools including St Ives and Helston reopen this week. 4 others which reopened in the summer, including Penzance and Carn Brea, have been safeguarded. Congratulations to Cornwall Council. The Council overcame Government refusal to help, even though it provided funds to Conservative run Councils up country. The Council dipped into depleting reserves to construct a £6m rescue package.

It’s disappointing local Conservative MPs failed to secure any central Government help. But it seems they still want to turn up for the photo-calls or be associated with the success and to bathe in the Council’s reflected plaudits. It’s like arsonists turning up to be photographed alongside the fire-fighters. But par for the course.
