Mr George said, “Although I am abroad, in England, I’ll be thinking of you in Cornwall.

“Enthusiasm to celebrate St Piran’s Day grows each year. I will be celebrating in my own small way, but thinking of the thousands of people joining parades and other events in Cornwall to celebrate our pride in our place, who we are and what we’ve achieved.

“Of course, there will continue to be talks with Ministers and others about seeking a better deal on powers; to give Cornwall a greater say in the shaping of its future and in how it organises its own affairs. But we still need a strong and a positive message to come from Cornwall to help us explain to Government why we are distinctive and should be treated as a special place.”
