RCHT – Staff and patients’ interests paramount
George says Trust must move on following Board resignations
MP for the West Cornwall and Isles of Scilly constituency of St Ives, Andrew George, said that the first priority of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust should continue to be patient care and to ensure that hard working and dedicated frontline staff are given full support.
Mr George said, “Most patients and, indeed, staff will be bemused by news that a number of Trust Board members have walked out. The Trust can’t turn the clock back and must move on. There are procedures available for those who remain discontented with the outcome of the recent investigation into the alleged actions of the former Chairman of the Trust.
“But recent Inquiries into Mid Staffordshire hospital clearly show that neither patient, staff not the public interest is served when an organisation attempts to ‘close ranks’. The public interest is best served when a hospital adopts a policy of candour and transparency. There are procedures available for those who wish to appeal against any decisions which have been made.
“I hope the community will continue to get behind the Hospitals’ Trust as it continues to face the challenges of resource constraint and intense demand for services.”
