The Queen’s Speech – The Liberal Democrats’ achievements in Government should be applauded

Posted on: 4th June 2014

West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, has welcomed the achievements made by the Liberal Democrats in Government – many of which are outlined in the Queen’s Speech today.

“While I have a reputation for holding the Government to account and “rebelling” against policies that I do not think act in the best interests of the UK or the constituency, I still believe that Coalition Government was and remains the best of the available options.

“In particular, I welcome the achievements highlighted in the Queen’s Speech which recognise the fall in unemployment, the creation of more than 1m jobs, the progressive reform of our pensions system, enabling 1.6m new apprenticeships, cutting income tax for the lowest paid and creating the conditions for economic recovery.

“As we enter into the final year of this Parliament it’s worth remembering the many achievements of the Liberal Democrats in Government, including constraining some of the worst excesses of the Tories. But I’ll still keep a watchful eye, act accordingly and put the best interests of the constituency above party tribalism.”
