Put rail investment on fast track – George

Posted on: 7th October 2014

West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, is urging Government Minister Greg Clark to put promised investment in rail services on a fast track. The Cabinet Office Minister is visiting Penzance rail station today to meet with Cornwall & Isles of Scilly LEP to discuss Cornwall’s Growth Deal.

Mr George led the successful campaign for major investment in train services from Penzance, including a 3k named petition he delivered to Parliament. Mr George said, “It’s great that Greg is visiting and I will speak to him again when he’s had time to reflect on his visit.

“As well as the announced investment, there is still more needed to improve our rolling stock infrastructure. I will continue to campaign for the necessary investment and improvements to our rail services until we get a firm commitment from Government to provide a rail service in keeping with 21st century requirements.

“MPs across all parties, in Cornwall and the South West, have already voted to secure the £billions of investment necessary for HS2 to get underway. But it is only reasonable to continue to ask that the Government gives us a just share of investment to provide the resilient and reliable rail service from Penzance to Paddington.”
