Pressing for UK Border Force rethink

Posted on: 9th July 2013

The MP for the West Cornwall and Isles of Scilly constituency of St Ives, Andrew George, is pressing the UK Border Force to review the security of its cover for West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.  This follows the most recent massive seizure of cocaine from a yacht which had been towed into the Isles of Scilly after it broke down on 17th June.

The Yacht, The Windrose, was found to have an estimated £20 million class A drugs on board.  It was bound for Falmouth when it broke down and had to be towed to the Scillies.

Mr George said:  “I suspect that this seizure was more the product of luck than judgement.  I had raised concerns when the last Government cut the numbers of Customs officers and facilities around our coast.  I fear that drug smugglers can just walk in through our ‘front door’!
