Pay back Covid windfall to help local families
Second homers who received some of the £169 million paid so far from Cornwall’s Covid aid should either pay the money back or donate it to housing charities.
The local MP has not yet apologised for having wrongly criticised me for highlighting this appalling misuse of public money. Nor has he apologised for incorrectly claiming that the Conservatives have closed the multi-million-pound tax loophole which enables this scandalous giveaway. But, at the very least, he should now support my call for this payback.
A suitable recipient would be the widely admired Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF). It is well placed to administer the funds and to direct them to vital charitable work to help the thousands of local families. Thousands are being evicted as the bonanza going in the second/holiday home and AirBnB property investment sector grows.
