MP to visit the Scillies

Posted on: 16th July 2012

Local MP, Andrew George, will be visiting the Isles of Scilly this coming Thursday, 19th July, when he will hold a private surgery, meetings and will also be a guest at a public meeting called by a local campaign group, Heart of Scilly.

Mr George will visit the Five Islands School to meet Governors. Mr George has raised concerns on behalf of constituents with the Secretary of State for Education following the recent suspension and then resignation of the School’s former Head Teacher, Bryce Wilby.

He will also hold discussions with the Council regarding plans for the redevelopment of St Mary’s Harbour and education issues; and with others on other matters such as housing, the future of the GP surgery, transport and governance issues. He has been asked for the opportunity for private appointments.

He will visit the petrol station, Sibleys, at 10.45am to find out how the 5p per litre road fuel discount is being administered on the Islands and also for a photo shoot. Mr George has campaigned for fair fuel prices for essential users in rural locations.

Mr George’s casework surgery is taking place at The Manse between 11am and 1pm. He would be pleased to hear from local constituents who would like to book an opportunity to raise specific concerns with him either privately or in a more public session. He urges people to contact his office to make an appointment.

Mr George said, “As usual, There is plenty going on on the Isles of Scilly and, after my aborted attempt to visit the Islands in the spring, I look forward to having more luck on this occasion, to meet as many local people as I can and to try to better understand the issues which I know continue to generate contention in the local community.”
