MP reiterates support for PM visit to Penzance
West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, has reiterated his support for The Cornishman campaign to invite the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon David Cameron MP, to visit Penzance as part of the campaign to regenerate the town.
Mr George, who recently raised concerns with the Prime Minister about the sustainability of transport links between Penzance and the Isles of Scilly (and who will himself hold a meeting with the PM in the coming weeks) has also been urging local representative bodies to take advantage of Government initiatives to promote regeneration of the town.
Mr George was a speaker at the recent Penzance Chamber of Commerce AGM where he outlined a number of projects he had both led in Parliament and which he was keen to support in the town. This included a proposed Business Improvement District, the use of discretionary rate relief provisions in the Localism Act, the use of “pop-up shops” in empty town premises and other local projects including work which Mr George is involved in to improve transport links between Penzance and the Isles of Scilly.
Mr George said, “I congratulate The Cornishman newspaper on its welcome campaign. As I have been saying, Penzance is a brilliant and unique town. Though avoidable divisions have held it back, if everyone pulls together we can really change things for good.”
