Midwifery care cuts – false economy
Commenting on the statement from the Royal College of Midwives today, Health Select Committee Member and the MP for the West Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Constituency of St Ives, Andrew George, said:
“These Parliamentary answers confirm a worrying trend of cuts at a time when demands are increasing. As the recent reports show, starving this service of resources is a false economy and results in significantly greater costs as a consequence of complaints and litigation – with an equivalent of 20% of the midwifery budget being used to meet the costs of failure.”
