Merkel calls Johnson’s bluff

Angela Merkel is smart. PM Johnson is out of his depth. The UK Conservatives planned to construct a story in which the EU would be blamed for a breakdown in negotiations.

By asking Johnson to find an alternative solution to the Irish backstop the ball’s in his court. She’s called his bluff. 30 days to watch them squirm.

Dispassionate bystanders will enjoy the entertainment. But for the millions who will be harmed by the antics of this Government and its right-wing dogma it will not be fun. Meanwhile the pampered, wealthy and expensively educated Brexit campaigners who have got us into this mess will of course be insulated form the worst effects of their irresponsibility.
