MENCAP ‘Stand By Me’ Campaign

Posted on: 21st June 2011

Today, Andrew George MP will support the launch of Mencap’s ‘Stand By Me’ campaign against disability hate crime.

The launch, which takes place during the Learning Disability Week 2011, aims to make people aware of the issue of hate crimes towards people with disabilities. Mencap believes that people with a learning disability should be free from the fear of hate crime, and that all parts of the criminal justice system, including the police and courts, should work with people with a learning disability to stop hate crime.

Mr George has served as the Liberal Democrat Shadow Disabilities Minister, and retains a keen interest in ensuring the protection of disabled people’s rights.
