Meeting with Minister on Affordable Housing

Posted on: 7th July 2011

On Tuesday 5th July , Andrew George MP met with Grant Shapps MP, Minister for Housing and Local Government.

They discussed  a number of concerns which are regularly raised at Mr George’s casework surgeries, such as the attitude of lenders towards local families buying and selling “affordable” and shared equity/ownership properties. In addition, they  also talked about concerns over the prevalence of second home ownership in some communities which clearly have a powerful impact upon market prices and the housing opportunities of local people, and which has a profound effect particularly in Cornwall.

Mr George has long campaigned for improvements in affordable home building in Cornwall, arguing that whilst the housing stock in Cornwall has doubled in the last 40 years, the problem of local people not being able to afford homes has worsened
