Meeting with firefighters at Penzance Fire Station

Posted on: 27th January 2012

Local MP Andrew George met with firefighters when he visited Penzance Fire Station today, Friday 27th January 2012.

Among the issues he discussed with the firefighters were proposed changes to their pension scheme.

Mr George also met  with the boss of a local renewable energy installation company  to discuss the latest development in the solar PV feed-in tariff issue which is currently subject to legal dispute.

This week, solar energy companies welcomed a Court of Appeal ruling, which stated that the Government had acted unlawfully in proposing cuts to feed-in tariffs for solar installations completed after December 12th last year, on the grounds the cuts would have come into effect before the end of the consultation on the proposed changes.

However, the Energy and Climate Change Secretary, Rt. Hon Chris Huhne MP, has confirmed that the Government plans to appeal against the ruling. He also confirmed that DECC would launch a full review of the wider feed-in tariff scheme on 9 February.

Mr George, who leads for the Liberal Democrats in Parliament on the environment, met with Andy Tanner, Managing Director of Plug Into the Sun, which is based in Long Rock, to discuss this matter and other concerns.
