Meanwhile Brexit continues to divert attention; from the on-going crisis in the NHS, a housing system which rewards wealthy investors to the detriment of those in need and the many state schools which are struggling to survive on their diminishing budgets.

And our environment hasn’t had a look-in for ages. The Government’s draft Environment Bill was published last month without fanfare. No wonder. The Wildlife Trusts have slated it for failing to give nature “the legal certainty” it desperately needs.

Hundreds of locals who have consistently committed their time to promote plastic-free projects, plan regular beach cleans etc will no doubt see MPs turn up for photo-calls. But it’s doing their real job back in Westminster that matters.
