Local MP hosts Parliamentary event to raise awareness of chronic condition

St Ives MP Andrew George today hosted a Reception in Parliament for the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society (NASS), an organisation working to support those suffering from the painful condition in which parts of the spine fuse together.  The event was a chance for supporters, fundraisers, volunteers and campaigners to lobby MPs and raise awareness of the chronic condition which affects thousands of people in the UK.

Mr George – a member of NASS who, himself, suffers from the disease – said: “For more than 25 years NASS has been making an incredibly important contribution in terms of advocacy and practical help for those living with this condition.  It was an honour to be invited to speak at this event and highlight key campaigns such as the need for earlier diagnosis and better research into treatment options for the many people, including children and teenagers, who suffer from Ankylosing Spondylitis.”

Along with other policy makers, GPs and experts, Mr George contributed to a report entitled “Forgotten Conditions”, published by NASS this autumn,  which aims to raise the profile of AS and other lesser known conditions.
