Isles of Scilly visit from MP
Local MP, Andrew George, will visit St Mary’s on Friday 2nd March 2012 for a series of meetings with constituents, local businesses and Council bosses.
Mr George will visit the new Five Islands School at 9.15am and will be accompanied by the school’s headteacher, Bryce Wilby.
He will later meet with the Council of the Isles of Scilly Chief Executive, Philip Hygate, for an update on Island Council matters.
Mr George will be holding his regular casework surgery for constituents at The Manse on St Mary’s from 11.30am.
At 1.15pm he will visit Sibleys, the fuel merchants, to discuss this week’s launch of a fuel discount pilot scheme which will give islanders a 5p a litre discount on their fuel.
Mr George has consistently pressed the case for fairer fuel prices and especially for the more remote areas where there is no alternative to the private car and where prices are highest.
He said: “Scillonians currently pay the highest fuel bills in the country and this measure will offer a fairer deal for Islanders.”
He will also hold other meetings on matters ranging from the plans for the planned infrastructure improvements to the Harbour to support the mainland ferry service, telecommunications issues, fisheries and the marine and island environment.
