Homelessness could be solved in just one day of bankers’ bonuses

Posted on: 19th December 2011

Local MP, Andrew George, has circulated his Christmas card with another annual ‘contrast at Christmas’. On this occasion his concern is homelessness; contrasting the cost of solving homelessness with that of the level of bonuses which City Bankers have awarded themselves this year.

Mr George has shown that just one working day of City bonuses would meet the costs of providing an average annual rent for a one bedroom flat for each one of those people who sleep rough from this Christmas until the next.

Mr George said, “It is traditional that we reflect on the needs of others at Christmas. The Christmas story involves temporary rough sleepers, when there was ‘no room at the Inn’. It is appropriate that we should again reflect on the needs of those for whom there is ‘no room’.”
