Goonhilly workshop

Posted on: 12th March 2013

Local MP, Andrew George, has praised the Directors of Goonhilly Earth Station (GES Ltd) for hosting an education and outreach workshop at the site last evening (Monday).

GES Ltd, which is aiming to develop a science and arts education outreach programme, invited guests from South Africa – Square Kilometer Array team – along with academics from some of the world’s leading universities to the event, in association with the Consortium of Universities for Goonhilly Astronomy. Representatives from local schools and colleges also attended.

Mr George, who is pressing Government Ministers to support the company from the Regional Growth Fund, said: “I am often asked when we will have news that the Government will give GES the support they deserve, to really make this business fly, generating much needed jobs and more investment in the local economy? I admit that the lack of progress in resolving public funding for GES Ltd’s transformational project is disappointing. But I am determined that they will secure the support they deserve. I will continue to do all I can to support them – and, indeed all local entrepreneurial companies – and seek to encourage and reassure the Government that it would be wise to back them.”
