Girling to join George on Brexit debate panel

Posted on: 16th January 2019

Friday 1st Feb – St John’s Hall, Penzance

Former Conservative, Julie Girling MEP, will join former MP, Liberal Democrat Andrew George on a Brexit panel debate on 1st February in Penzance. Ms Girling was expelled by the Conservatives for refusing to back her Party’s Brexit policy. (Ironically, scores of Conservative MPs will also vote against their Party Leader in Westminster again today without facing expulsion from their Party).

The meeting has been called by Andrew George. Mr George has organised a series of successful meetings on Brexit and related matters in recent months.

This has included: a public meeting with Liberal Democrat Leader Vince Cable MP in Helston; sharing a platform in Penzance with Labour’s Lord Andrew Adonis; holding cross-party meetings with representatives from other Parties including UKIP; public debates with business leaders, legal experts and campaigners. On each occasion he has also invited the local Conservative MP Derek Thomas (as he has done for the meeting on 1st Feb) who has consistently refused/declined.

Two weeks later (15th Feb) he is arranging another public panel discussion in Penzance led by EU Law Professor Michael Dougan from Liverpool University.
