George welcomes Wave Hub news

Posted on: 11th December 2013

Commenting on the news that 2014 will see the first wave energy device moved to the Wave Hub site off the coast of St Ives, the local MP who has strongly backed the project since it was first proposed nearly ten years ago, Andrew George, said:

“This is brilliant news for our area. This means jobs, investment and the prestige of having the chance to become a world leader in marine renewable energy generation.

“I congratulate all who have put so much into making this happen and to the Government for understanding that this sector needs consistent – not changing – policy commitment and the certainty and confidence this brings to investors.

“I understand that Seatricity will deploy a single device next summer and, if all goes well, an array of devices will be deployed in 2015.”

Seatricity is intending to build its next generation Oceanus 2 device in Cornwall and will locate its custom built workboat, Ocean Enterprise, in Hayle shortly.
