George welcomes progress on helicopter service

Local MP, Andrew George, has welcomed today’s press statement by Tesco, confirming that it has dropped its Judicial Review (JR) against Cornwall Council for the plan to develop a supermarket on the existing site used by British International Helicopters for its service to the Isles of Scilly.

Mr George has been in communication with a range of stakeholders since the BIH announcement at the beginning of the month. This includes the party which has lodged another JR against Cornwall Council regarding the same planning application. BIH has indicated that it would commit to continuing the service to the Isles of Scilly if that JR were withdrawn.

Mr George said: “The lawyers acting on behalf of the remaining lodged Judicial Review have confirmed that they would be happy to engage in mediation with all interested parties, including Cornwall Council to find a way of avoiding the necessity of pursuing what might otherwise be an extensive legal process. But we need to make sure that all parties agree on a route map between the legal loggerheads which is stopping progress and the available compromise and conciliation which would provide the ingredients for a workable solution.”
