George welcomes free training for fishermen

Newlyn boats2West Cornwall MP Andrew George has welcomed the offer of free training worth up to £1,400 to local fishermen.

Seafood Cornwall Training, the dedicated training agency for Cornwall’s fishing industry, has extended its funding until March 2014 for fishermen to refresh their basic sea safety courses and complete their Skipper’s Tickets for boats under 16.5 metres long.

Emma Button, Training Coordinator at Seafood Cornwall Training explained, “It’s great news that fishermen can benefit from free courses for another 6 months. However with the winter being our busiest time delivering courses, I urge fishermen to contact me and sign up as soon as possible to secure their places. “

Mr George said “This is a great opportunity and I hope people will take advantage before it’s too late.”
