George welcomes energy deal

Local MP, Andrew George, has welcomed a landmark deal brokered by the Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon Nick Clegg MP, with the major energy companies to get bills down.

The Deputy Prime Minister recently announced that the companies will now let people know regularly what the cheapest deal is and how they can get it.

Mr George said: “The apparent increase in consumer choice has coincided with a boom in the number and complexity of tariffs. This has left many customers confused and paying more than they need to for energy.

“I realise this is only the first step. Our reliance on dwindling supplies of oil and gas, mostly from volatile regions, is bad for consumers and bad for our energy security. That is why I welcome the Coalition Government’s move to ensure that energy companies insulate millions of homes and businesses at no extra cost to the owners.”

Liberal Democrats in Government have already taken action to reduce bills by increasing insulation with 25,933 homes in Cornwall insulated at no extra cost to the home owners and more expected to receive help under the Green Deal.
