George visits Carbis Bay Hotel, Porthleven Shipyard and Penzance’s Jubilee Pool with Communities and Local Government Minister
West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, is today visiting three West Cornwall community and tourism projects with Penny Mordaunt, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government.
Today’s schedule is as follows:
3.45pm – Carbis Bay Hotel
5pm – Porthleven Shipyard
6.15pm – Jubilee Pool
Mr George said, “I’m pleased the new Minister is coming to West Cornwall to see what’s good about our local enterprises and community initiatives. Carbis Bay Hotel, Porthleven regeneration project and The Jubilee Pool are local icons. I’m pleased that the Government recognise that we have initiatives deserving of central Government support.
“But, the Minister’s visit will also provide a good opportunity to highlight other unresolved community issues at each of the three areas we are visiting today:-
1. Government recognition of the need to support local people seeking to protect St Ives from inappropriate development and backing for the emerging Neighbourhood Plan;
2. The Porthleven Harbour bid for storm damage funding support from the Small Ports Recovery Fund set up after the pounding the town endured during the February storms; and
3. The need for the Minister’s backing for the popular plan to create an offshore breakwater to protect Penzance harbour, Jubilee Pool, rail station and seafront, leading to major marine investments for the town.
“So while today’s visit showcases West Cornwall, I will make sure that it is used as an opportunity to promote wider concerns and opportunities which require a Government response and support.”
