During his visit last week to the Isles of Scilly, West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, met with Mike Nelhams, curator of Tresco Abbey Gardens, who is overseeing a project to introduce the red squirrel to the Isles of Scilly.

The native red squirrel has been driven out of vast swathes of the country by the non-native grey squirrel. Andrew has been a keen supporter of efforts to introduce/reintroduce the red squirrel and has been following the red squirrel project on both Tresco and on the Lizard.

Mr George said, “I’m pleased to see that good progress is being made here. It’s great that they’re now rearing their first young. It’s all very encouraging so far.”
