George: Together We Can Ensure Patients Are Put Before Profit

Andrew George, MP for West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, has today congratulated all those who are today protesting the proposed outsourcing of services at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust (RCHT) outside Treliske. Mr George, who recently co-sponsored the NHS Reinstatement Bill with Caroline Lucas, has said that he is glad to see so much support for the campaigns to keep the NHS in Cornwall public.

Mr George said, “I am pleased to see that local people are getting behind the campaigns to stop the threat of privatisation of our local NHS services.

“I had raised complaints with the Trust about the apparent proposal to outsource the pathology services a few weeks ago and, earlier this week, I was glad to be told by the Chief Executive, Bill Shields, that they have decided to “pause” this plan.

“However, we are still experiencing problems with one company to which services have been outsourced: Mitie. We need to keep up the pressure to ensure our services continue to put patients before profit.”
