George to visit local homecare agency
Andrew George MP will meet with staff of a local homecare agency tomorrow (Wednesday 20th February at 11.30am) to discuss the challenges faced by the homecare sector.
Mr George will have the opportunity to shadow the work of health care workers and to meet with some of their clients and carers when he visits MSS Care in St Keverne. This is the third local care company Mr George has visited in the last 12 months.
Mr George, who is a member of the Health Select Committee which recently produced an Inquiry Report into Social Care, said: “With fewer hospital beds and many more older and frail elderly people home care workers provide the backbone of care on which thousands of families depend.
“Mostly unseen, home care workers are the quiet heroes of our social care system. I’ve highlighted that they perform functions which most of those who pontificate in Parliament on the subject would not themselves be prepared to do, and certainly not at the average lowly wage level that home care workers are paid.
“I look forward to meeting those who work for MSS Care and I hope it will help me gain a better understanding of the work they do.”
